Cindy Sheehan is Out

In an open letter Cindy Sheehan explains why she is leaving the Democratic Party and the peace movement.  She gives it to Nancy Pelosi.  She also calls for others who want to declare their independence from the Democratic Party to meet her in Philadelphia on July 4 of this year.

of course she bailed. Her stance was assinine. She degraded her hero sons memory. i don'tlove the war but I do have a cousin and 2 of his sons in it. Shes a nut no doubt. She was abused by the Idiocrats and I hope she isnt permenanty scarred by that. I can't believe folks would abuse another person like that, shame on the Dems.

While I disagree with the other commenter here; I think Sheehan did her son a great service, I also think she is wrong on the Dems. In fact, I think the blogosphere was too harsh on them. Really, there is not much they could have done as they did not have the votes. That is the reality. Edwards wanted to keep sending the same bill, but that would have played right into Bush's hands. Dems cannot give up speaking out, but abandoning the Dems because of this "loss" or jumping all over them for "selling out" misses the point. Dems are not the enemy; terrorism is internationally and the Bush Administration is domestically. Expecting perfection means we hold Dems to an unfair standard.

Again, though, calling Sheehan anything but a patriot and a mother who lost her son in a pointless war based on lies and treasonous behavior is, well, stupid.

What I wish is that all of these people who say they are sick of the Democratic Party and don't know what to do would do the obvious, and join the Green Party.
