Observations of the MidSummer Classic
Here are a few thoughts about the 2007 All Stars Game:
1. Willie Mays is a true legend and received the welcome of a king pf baseball.
2. When the players were introduced, they walked down a red carpet. It should have been orange.
3. The Commish Bud Selig was not introduced. This was the best decision of the entire week.
4. Barry Bonds got a standing ovation, but not all of us love him. I have mentioned this before.
5. Albert Pujols is irked that he played left bench. I don't blame him.
6. MLB had covered Bonds' home run record on the outfield wall for Future's Game and the Home Run Derby, but they uncovered it for the All Stars Game.
Bostonist has some Red Sox Recap of the game.

How come everyone is up in arms over Bonds being on steriods (as they have a right to be), but when one of the best defensive players in the NFL (Shawn Merriman) is suspended after actually testing positive, it is treated with a collective shrug. Further proof that the NFL has placed the nation in some sort of Vulcan Mind Meld.

Hey, on the Pujols thing, he threw LaRussa under the bus. Pujols was in the trainer's room and at least partially out of uniform.
I do not know if TV distorted the sound somewhat, but I have heard much louder and longer ovations that what Barry got. It seemed tame on TV. I thought the crowd was good to Willie from TV, but the whole thing seemed contrived to match the Ted Williams deal a few years ago.

I am up in arms because all of these athletes are paid to use their bodies, but seem not give a shit about what they ingest or inject or have rubbed all over themselves. Ridiculous!
The ovation for Barry was LOUD and LONG, but I was not a participant.

It definitely did not come across on TV. I wonder if they purposely lowered the sound. I would not cheer him either, though I have had 150 of his rookie card for quite some time now waiting to sell.
With the steroids issue in general, the ones I really hold accountable are the ones NOT doing it who protect those who do. It hurts a sport I love so much. No stat seems real anymore.
The players who do use all this stuff will pay the ultimate price as their bodies break down or suffer from illness in later years. I feel bad for their kids.
