Dear Pro Gay Abby
Dear Abby:
As a person with many LGBT friends, I just want to thank you for being pro gay marriage. I think that it makes sense. You are right when you say it is about civility.
Best wishes,
Catherine

I think this will be very influential among 85-year-olds. They vote!

Actually, I think this is a good thing. "Abby" these days is the daughter of the orginal Abby, and has been making some progressive noises (especially re: the LGBT community) for quite a while now. The thing about it is that the column is printed in dozens -- if not hundreds -- of papers nationwide, so she's reaching an audience that is much bigger than if she were just a San Francisco Chronicle columnist, say. And not all of them are 85 years old!

I saw her on CNN today and I heard what the comments here already have mentioned; she's been saying this for awhile and has a huge readership. This can't be anything but a good thing.
