WAR ON OLD NAVY

Ok, so Old Navy had this bogus mascot contest where you can enter your dog. Right, so I entered Liam with this picture. He is a neighborhood favorite, after all!Liam

They held four fake casting calls where one of the judges even had the nerve to ask several questions about him, take his picture with her handheld and say that she wanted him. WHATEVER!

So, he is not selected -- I can live with that part, but then I get this email to vote for one of the six semifinalists. Ok, again not so bad. But, then I click over and the dogs that they "claim to have selected" are the same ones that ran in the ads for the contest!

The contest is/was BOGUS! Boycott Old Navy and their crappy clothes. Their will be another battle posted soon.

This is just the icing on the cake. I've developed rage against Old Navy recently because it appears they are phasing out their plus-size sections in their stores. How rude.

By the way, your dog? I am overwhelmed by the cuteness.

I heard about this from a co-worker who entered her beagle. When she told me had to give her email address, etc., my first thought was: "Oh, now you're on Old Navy's mailing list as a dog owner."

What a rip!

Anyway, I'm boycotting O.N. like I'm boycotting Dress Barn or Wheelchairs R Us.

Liam is a winner. To me. *sob* Oy.

If I shopped there, I would boycott them. Assholes.

Liam is too damned cute. How do you stand it? I'm not even a dog person and I can't even stand it. He's precious.

He is just darling! I can't imagine any fair contest that he would not emerge the winner.

That is illegal. It's called fraud. You can turn them in to the office of the attorney general in the state where their headquarters is located. I hope you do.

To Hell with Old Navy.

Thanks, all! Yes, Liam is freakin' adorable and completely sweet. Their HQ is here in SF like their Gap and Banana Republic counterparts!

Posted by: Catherine | Jul 17, 2006 9:23:34 AM

yeah, i totally would have voted for him.

I have got to say that this wasn't a bogus contest. I work with one of the finalists and it is definitely real. I'm no fan of Old Navy and their evil mother company, but don't bash the contest just because they didn't pick your dog.

Interesting, Casey. A friend works at Old Navy and gave me some insights into their "contest." It wass over before it started.

Liam for President! (he'd probably make better decisions than the dogs (wolves?) we have in the White House now)

You should submit Liam to cuteoverload. I see that their submissions section is down at the moment, but they say it will be up again soon.

Do you mind if I put his picture on my blog (with a link back to you, of course)?

Crabbi, how could I mind? I have sent a picture of Liam to cuteoverload, but I emailed it, so will try again. Good idea!

As the owner of one of the 6 finalist I can honestly say that there was no fraud. Cooper was not part of any gig at all before they announced she was part of the top 6. I was notified about a week before they posted the 6 that she was in top 6 and about a month before that that she was in top 12. They did come do photoshoots of top 12 dogs. If you want to know the process that happened I am more than happy to tell you further but there really was not fraud, atleast not with my dog, she was a legit entry etc.....

I know how you feel about the contest. I entered my Herbie and he wasn't chosen either. Herbie's so "ugly" he's absolutely adorable!

Just saw your posting today, and it brought back bad memories of last May when I tried to enter my dog in the mascot contest. For the last day and a half of the contest entry period the ON server was either broken(or Old Navy shut it down intentionally). I repeatedly emailed them during that time, told them of my attempts to enter, and asked if they were going to fix the server. they never did. They responded back to me about 4 days after the entry period ended and told me it was now "too late" to make an entry. They gave no apology or explanation for the site being down. BOGUS BOGUS BOGUS!!! I thought about making a complaint to Atty General...but was just too disgusted. Your dog sure is cute though, and definitely should have been a winner!!!

Your point is well taken Seriously, however my gripe is not that my dog didn't win, or even get into a contest; obviously there are far more gripping issues facing our planet than the ON dog contest, my issue in it's narrow form is merely the bad faith or dare I suggest illegal way in which the contest was run But putting it into proper context, If a large coprporation such as ON is unscrupulous in their conduct of a photo contest, then perhaps it is only indicative of their lack of concern on a global level...but on my part, I do try to patronize socially responsible corporations whenever possible.
