New Poll: Racism in America

Damn, I can't believe that they needed a poll to figure out that we have racism in America. I am shocked, shocked I tell you. See CNN

It would seem that most of those who were polled said "that they know people who are racist, but do not consider themselves to be racist." wink, wink

Then, how does anyone explain the Tufts University Journal that published, "O Come All ye Black Folks?" This shit pisses me off. Why can't people just be people and not some label? At times like this, I wish that we were all color blind. The carol wasn't meant to be offensive. Um, right, it is surprising, but not all Black people are from the Ghetto, asshats.

I know, let's ask the residents of New Orleans if they think that people in America are racist?

Ugh. That kind of stuff burns me up. I was the subject of a somewhat racist assumption recently, and it reminded me that stupid-ass racist people still exist. And this happened in Berkeley, of all fucking places.

I continue to believe that racism is alive and well in this country. Why else would people find it funny to make fun of things like affirmative action, as in the Tufts publication? Pfft.

This country's economic system was built upon and reinforced by racism. Racist ideology is practically in our blood. For anyone to think that it has vanished in the 21st is naive at best. Slavery has been abolished for 143 years in this country - before that the colonies of North America practiced slavery for 263 years.

I think people like Mel Gibson and Michael Richards make the point that there is racism in America. As if we didn't already know that.

The community from which I come is full of casual racists. Would this occur but for their placing athletics before academics?

The whole gay-persecuting thing being run right now by the wingnut leaders of Jesusistan is a way of reopening the door, and returning us to an era where it's OK for the polite people to be openly bigoted again. Anyone who doesn't think so should check the links between good old "traditional" white-sheet organizations and groups like the FRC, or Focus on the Family.

Thankfully, the Ted Haggards are being blasted out of the closet.
